The North Memphis Tour provides both urban and rural experiences.
Starting at the MATA North End Terminal on N. Main St., the route crosses onto Mud
Island via the Auction Avenue Bridge, providing views of Harbor Town, an award
winning community with an architectural style reminiscent of the 19th Century. Across Island
Drive from Harbor Town is the Mississippi Greenbelt Park which offers views
of the Mississippi River. The route continues along the Mississippi River
Trail using N. Second St. This segment of N. Second St. is recommended only
for highly experienced adult bikers. It is a two lane highway with no shoulders.
Upon leaving Mud Island, the route changes from urban to a tranquil rural setting
with views of the Wolf River flood plain. In contrast to the flat Wolf River area, the route continues
through the hilly terrain of Frayser neighborhoods. The southern portion of the route links
to Overton Park, containing the Memphis Zoo and the Brooks Museum of Art.
