Thomas E. Long was elected City Court Clerk October 5, 1995 and was reelected 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011.As the City Court Clerk, he is responsible for the docket and minute books of the three Municipal Courts and the collection of traffic fines and forfeitures for the City of Memphis. He is responsible for a staff of 59 full-time and 14 part-time employees with an operating budget of $3.9 million.
Mr. Long served as the Coordinator of the nine Governmental Agency Multi-Jurisdictional Disparity Study, Legislative Liaison and Senior Internal Auditor for the Memphis City Schools, a career spanning over 20 years. He also served as the Director of Fiscal Affairs for the Memphis Urban League and Assistant Manager, Bank Premise and Property Section for Union Planters National Bank.
Mr. Long volunteers his time and talents to many civic and service organizations: Chairman of Central District, Chickasaw Council 558, Boy Scouts of America Vice President of Scout Reach; Executive Board of the Chickasaw Council; BSA Council Annual Banquet Chairman; Council Silver Beaver Committee Chairman; Served on two Scout Executive Selection Committees; Served as committee member of two district realignment task force; Former South Central District Friends of Scouting Chairman; Former South Central District Chairman; District Award of Merit Recipient; Silver Beaver Recipient; Former Council Feed the Homeless Chairman; Finance Chairman of Pyramid Recovery Center; Finance Chairman of Case Management; Chairman of Memphis Area Neighborhood Development Corporation; Whitehaven YMCA Vice President; Former Instructor at Southwest Community College.He has a degree in Accounting from Tennessee State University and attended the Institute of Internal Auditors.
Mr. Long’s hobbies include reading, business development and GOLF.
Mr. Long and his wife, Valerie has three children: Thomas II, Taura and Turner; three grandchildren: Thomas III, Taylor and Triston.
