Deputy Chief of Administration
Michael L. Jubirt began his career with the Memphis Fire Department on January 17, 1983. As a firefighter, he was originally assigned to Engine 51 and later to Engine 23 until his promotion to Driver in September 1986. While a Driver, Michael worked on Engine 44.
On November 19, 1988, Jubirt was promoted to Lieutenant and received his first assignment in the downtown area on Engine 1. Michael remained in the downtown area following his promotion to Battalion Chief in November 1995 and assigned to Battalion 1.
Chief Jubirt achieved the rank of Division Chief on November 9, 2001 and become the Division Chief of Administration. Michael became a member on the Command Staff with his promotion to Deputy Chief in August 2004 and assigned to the position of Deputy Chief of Administration.
As a Deputy Chief, his responsibilities include oversight of the Accounting Department, preparation and monitoring of the Division’s Capital Improvement (CIP) and Operating budgets, Human Resources, Payroll, Planning, and Grant Solicitation processes. Other responsibilities include the development and implementation of the Fire Division’s current and past promotional and hiring systems.
Since joining the Department, Chief Jubirt has attained several State of Tennessee Commission of Firefighting certificates Firefighter II & III, Fire Instructor I, and Hazardous Materials. Michael has attended classes at the National Fire Academy that focused on leadership, management and strategic planning. He also holds certificates from classes completed though the Municipal Training Program sponsored through the University of Tennessee. He attended then Shelby State Community College where he was an Accounting major.
Michael is a native Memphian, married, father of four children and resided in Memphis for years.
Chief Jubirt is a life long member of his church and serves in a leadership role. Michael is an avid University of Memphis football and basketball fan, as well as a Dallas Cowboy fan. Chief Jubirt holds memberships in several local and national organizations and is a volunteer with the National Kidney Foundation of West Tennessee.
