Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau (MVIB)

The City of Memphis Motor Vehicle Inspection Bureau (MVIB) is responsible for conducting vehicle safety inspections and emissions tests on vehicles registered in Memphis. The MVIB is dedicated to ensuring that all Memphians are operating safe vehicles that meet environmental standards to help keep our City's air clean. Memphis began safety inspection of vehicles in the 1930's and has the first fully automated and computerized automobile safety/emission testing system in the nation. The advanced testing equipment offers greater consumer protection measures and ensures a higher quality of safety standards. "The Environment and Safety are our Business". Weights and Measures Bureau 

The Weights and Measures Bureau is responsible for the registration and certification of commercial devices and the verification of procedures utilized by businesses for commerce. Counter scales, platform scales, fuel dispensers, and taxi meters are registered annually and certified for accuracy. This bureau is governed by the City Code of Ordinance, State of Tennessee Code Annotated, National Conference on Weights and Measures, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology.
