Please see below for many of the recommended browser setting and browser related issues pertaining to the City’s Online Application Process/Employee Self Service.

City’s Online Application System and Employee Self Service are best viewed and accessed using Internet Explorer Browser 6.0 or above, Firefox 3.0.x or higher, and Mac-Safari browser 1.3.x or above. Please note that Mac-Safari needs few browser setting changes as provided in the next question on recommended browser settings.
§ To verify your browser version, click “Help” on the menu bar at the top of your browser.
§ Click on ‘About Internet Explorer’ or ‘About Mozilla Firefox’ or ‘About Safari’.
§ Please ensure the Version of your browser match these requirements:
o Internet Explorer Version 6.0 (or higher) Or
o Firefox Version 3.0.x or higher Or
o Safari 1.3.x or above.
§ Page Refresh
When using City’s Online Application/Employee Self-Service system it is important to ensure that the most current data is being viewed. You may check if the page has been updated since your last visit by manually refreshing the page, however it is desirable for this to be done automatically through Internet Explorer (IE) browser by setting the following parameter from the browser menu as follows;
IE7 and IE8
Users
§ Select Tools -> Internet Options -> General tab -> Browsing History -> Settings button.
§ Select 'Every time I visit the webpage'.
§ With this option set Internet Explorer will check if the page has changed since it was last viewed.
IE6 Users
§ Select Tools -> Internet Options -> General tab -> Settings button.
§ Select 'Every visit to the page'.
§ With this option set Internet Explorer will check if the page has changed since it was last viewed.
§ Disable Script Debugging:
§ Go
to Internet Explorer Browser -> Tools Menu
§ Click
on Internet Options
§ Click
on the Advanced Tab once Internet Options window is open.
§ Ensure
“Disable Script Debugging (Internet Explorer)” and “Disable Script Debugging (Other)”
is checked under Browser settings section.
IE can automatically show previous values entered in the same form field. For privacy and security reasons this feature should be disabled as follows;
§ Go
to Tools -> Internet Options -> Content
§ Click
the AutoComplete button
§ Uncheck
the 'Forms' and 'User names and passwords on forms' boxes.
§ If
you are re-doing your previously incomplete online application
Users should have the HTTP 1.1/Keep Alive option enabled.
To set this option, from the browser menu select;
§ Tools -> Internet Options -> Advanced tab -> HTTP 1.1 Settings.
§ Please ensure 'Use HTTP 1.1' and Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections' are both ticked.
For security reasons, if a PC is shared by
multiple users it is also advisable not to save encrypted pages onto
the drive. To set this option, please go to Tools -> Internet Options ->
Advanced tab
-> Security settings and tick 'Do not save encrypted pages to Disk'.
§ Enable Active and Java Scripting:
§ Go
to Internet Explorer Browser -> Tools Menu
§ Click
on the Security Tab.
§ Click
on the Custom Level button.
§ Ensure
“Active Scripting” and “Scripting of Java Applets” is enabled under the
Scripting settings section.
§ Click
OK button.
Firefox does not need any specific recommended settings other than removing pop-up blocker tick (if it had already been ticked) in Tools -> Options -> Content -> ‘Block pop-up windows’.
Please do the below recommended Mac-Safari Browser Settings to access Online Application System/Employee Self Service without any issues:
§ Go to ‘Preferences > Security > Web Content’.
§ Select ‘Enable Plugins’, ‘Enable Java’, and ‘Enable JavaScript’.
§ Do not select ‘Block Pop-Up Windows’.
§ From the Safari Menu go to ‘Preferences > Advanced’ and select ‘Press Tab to highlight each item on a webpage’.
Try deleting the temporary internet files that buildup on your PC, Delete Cookies, and increase amount of disk space to use for temporary internet files to 50 MB. Also, avoid using your browser "Back" and "Forward" buttons while using Online Application. Use the navigation buttons in the application to move from page to page.
