New Towne Center at Soulsville USA--LOCCDC has recently completed $14 million dollar economic development project that will house retail and office spaces and a full size grocery store in the heart of South Memphis – Soulville, USA. The project will create 212 full time jobs and 55 part time positions.
The AmSouth Center for Entrepreneurship Business Development Institute (BDI) is a 10 week entrepreneurship training program for low and very income potential small business owners. Funded by AmSouth Bank and the US Department Small Business Administration in 2002, the BDI has graduated over 400 potential business people and counting. The ten week intensive program meets once a week for 2 ½ hours with subjects ranges from how to select the proper form of business, accounting for small business, legal forms of business, and franchising 101to preparing a business plan and management of people, money and customers. The BDI has created opportunities for those interested or already in business to expand their knowledge base and/or decided if entrepreneurship is right for them. The BDI has created over 15 new businesses and assisted many others in deciding if the time is right to become entrepreneurs or simply stay on their present jobs.
The LeMoyne-Owen College Family Life Center (LOCFLC) has successfully promoted your development for the last 3 years and counting. LOCFLC provides mentoring services and supports young boys (3rd -5th grade academically and socially. These services offer an intervention strategy that will prevent them from becoming school drop-outs and taking the wrong paths as they fast mature and become the next generation youths. To date, LOCFLC has graduated 265 youth.
LOC Project Second Chance is designed to provide Teen
Mothers with an opportunity to advance in life through a second chance
at responsible activities and professional guidance. This is accomplished
through a Saturday Teen Academy where these young mothers are instructed
in financial literacy, financial management, social responsibility,
job skills as required, parenting skills as needed, other skills that
will give them an opportunity to advance beyond their current lot in
life. This program has seen over 18 teen mothers graduate.
