City Court Clerk
Thomas E. Long was elected in October 5, 1995 and won re-election on October 7, 1999. As the City Court Clerk, he is responsible for the docket and minute books of the three Municipal Courts and the collection of traffic fines and forfeitures for the City of Memphis. He is responsible for a staff of 56 full-time and 14 part-time employees with an operating budget of $2,993,660.
Mr. Long served as the Coordinator of the Multi-jurisdictional Disparity Study, Legislative Liaison and Senior Internal Auditor for the Memphis City Schools, a career spanning over 20 years. He also served as the Director of Fiscal Affairs for the Memphis Urban League and Assistant Manager, Bank Premise and Property Section for Union Planters National Bank.
Mr. Long volunteers his time and talents to many civic and service organizations: Chairman of Central District, Chickasaw Council 558, Boy Scouts of America; Finance Chairman of Pyramid Recovery Center; Chairman of Memphis Area Neighborhood Development Corporation; a member of Mississippi Boulevard Christian Church Manna Outreach Program and Whitehaven Community Development Corporation. He has a degree in Accounting from Tennessee State University, attended the Institute of Internal Auditors and is licensed in Real Estate and Insurance. Mr. Long and his wife, Valerie, have three children: Thomas II, Taura and Turner.
